NYU 1st Year

During my first year of Master's Degree at NYU, I focused on acquiring the technical knowledge necessary to build and innovate. I want to focus on this because innovation has always been my interest, and I also hope to support my home country in the future.

Although I have ten years of experience working in various industries, I recognize the need to enhance my skills, particularly in the field of technology. My background in journalism and writing, developed during my undergraduate studies, has been beneficial; however, I understand that to dive deeper, I need to pursue further education. That is why I have chosen to attend a STEM program that aligns with my goals, such as NYU ITP, while also taking classes at NYU Stern.

VLAD-T: The data collecting vampire chatbot

What Is This?

VLAD-T is the final project of the surveillance class in the simulation, where I attempted to combine the skills I have developed and utilized in a digital marketing team, including user data analysis and creating stories, which I do most frequently. VLAD-T is my response to the fact that most companies collect data on users for marketing purposes, aiming to create awareness of this issue while also making it fun and comical.

Why I Make It:
Initially, I attempted to manage all aspects of the project myself, but it became overwhelming to prepare all the scenarios. Then, I found the Ollama platform for hosting AI locally. I used Meta's free Llama API integrated with Ollama to create a chatbot. With Visual Studio Code and Vibe Coding, I added prompts for the chatbot to behave like a vampire and specified keywords for trackable conversations.

Innovation & Design Class: Skin Consultation Platform

As part of the Innovation & Design class at NYU Stern, my team decided to create a disruption platform for the beauty industry that integrates AI.

The subscription-based platform enables users to conduct basic skin consultations and receive recommendations from the AI integrated into the platform, as well as daily recommendations based on weather, photos, and even a saliva test. It also allows users to consult with a dermatologist for an extra fee.

How We Do It:
The disruptive mindset in the class requires us to formulate a disruptive hypothesis about the industry and conduct research on various aspects to uncover insights and opportunities. After completing all the processes, we proceed with creating the canvas and then perform testing on the platform.
Challenge We Face:
The beauty industry is vast, established, yet dynamic. Even over the last five years, it has undergone significant changes, including the emergence of trending ingredients, efficacy improvements, and the discovery of previously unknown compounds. Therefore, we must ensure that the platforms are beneficial and have a solid business standing.

Playful Communication Class: Bee as Microbial Radar

We discovered that a researcher from NYU, Elizabeth Henaff, found that bees can serve as microbial radar, helping to determine the health of the environment and humans.

All the fantastic things that bees do mean that, in the future, technologies need not only to be advanced but also to have mutualism between species and the environment. The journal from the Elizabeth team also shows me that many microbial organisms are potential in making more sustainable technologies and advancing science.

How We Do It:
Once we agree to make the exhibition by combining physical computing, fabrication, and projection mapping, we proceed to make design the map using real maps of New York made in topographic style, design the bees that user could play with, using magnetic sensor as control for the projection, and use projection mapping to show microbial example with colors.
Challenge We Face:
Combining minds in this project is one of the challenges, as everyone has their imagination for how to execute the piece. However, with a good amount of discussion and the work split that we do, it eventually works out. While everyone combines ideas, my work on this piece mainly involves coding and debugging the sensor with Arduino, determining the wiring system, and cutting the wood with a laser cutter.

The Learning Highlights

💡 I focus on innovation, strategic planning, and product design classes because I aim to become an expert in those subjects.

💡 Business Law is one of the classes that will be beneficial for me in the world of professional because it allows me to be aware of any legal implications on future decisions.

💡 I will still focus on innovation, content design & strategy, in the 2nd year, with the addition of a class that will allow me to give foresight on the future of tech and innovation, and specific subjects like finance, fintech, and entrepreneurship.
